Add Some Light to Your Reception with El Wire

I have been a big user and proponent of adding LED lights at wedding receptions and events as a way to make things glow and add ambient lighting to the event. I just recently ran across this newer product — El Wire — and wanted to share it with our unique brides.

What Advantages does El Wire Offer

Up until now, LED lights have come in the form of candles, tea lights, submersible small lights, disc lights and branch-like wired lights like those shown below.

I have used all these different types in different applications and they worked great. However, there were times when I would have loved to be able to do a bit more with the LED lighting but couldn’t with what was on the market.

El WireEl Wire — short for electroluminescent light — gives brides, planners and decorators another choice for battery operated light. First, the features of the el wire are as follows:

  • 10 ft. in length
  • 3 light settings — steady, slow flash, fast flash
  • Colors include: White, Orange, Yellow and Teal
  • Wire is only 2.2 mm thick
  • Battery pack with belt clip is 4.5″ long by 1.5″ wide and 1″ deep
  • Uses 2 “AA” batteries
  • Creates a “neon” like light that is bendable and DOES NOT generate heat

So, my mind is racing with opportunities to use this lighted wire. It reminds me of a mini version of rope lighting which is fantastic for a decorator to use in smaller areas like guest table centerpieces, buffet tables, cake tables, dessert tables, bar and more!

Ideas for Incorporating El Wire at your Reception

El Wire 2Because it is bendable, flexible, you can use it virtually anywhere! My first thought was to weave it through floral centerpieces on guest tables. This would act as ambient lighting and really make the centerpieces stand out. With 10 feet of lighted wire, you could easily weave it in, out and around the stems of a floral arrangement.

Another option that entered my mind almost immediately was to use in on buffet tables. For years and years, I have used string lights on buffet tables. I usually cover it with a sheer or almost sheer fabric so that the wire doesn’t take away from the lighting effect I wanted. With El Wire, I don’t see the need to cover it since the entire wire is lit — unlike traditional string lights.

El Wire 3You could weave it in and around the food offerings on your buffet, cake or dessert table to add to the ambiance. You could follow the contours of a cake or cupcake stand with the wire, using cellophane tape to hold it in place, if you are using ¬†glass cake stands, place it inside the pedestal portion of the cake stand for a glow of light at the base of your dessert, use it to spell out a simple word like “love” or make a heart shape out of it.

You could also place the El Wire inside a vase or lantern to add some light to a table or as an aisle decoration. Since they are battery operated, you can place them anywhere.
